Abstract art is made using computer code which takes words and phrases and translates each letter into a coloured block.
Headlines have been taken from the front pages of the print editions of the UK newspapers. On some works all the headlines from one days papers are displayed together, with each row of blocks representing the headline from one paper.
‘Towards Parity’ – seven days of headlines from the print edition of the Financial Times as the value of the pound plumetted following the Truss/Kwarteng disastrous mini-budget of 23 September 2022
Other pieces depict one word per line from a single headline with a series of works showing the headlines from one newspaper over a period of time. And in some series the letter is also displayed within the coloured block.
A colour is generated for each piece and a colour palette is derived from it giving the range of hues used for each letter or number. The same letter in each piece is the same colour and on some works an A–Z index key is printed at the base.
Giclée prints are available on archival art paper stock. Open edition.
